Frantically simple home and garden show part 2: Living Room

Welcome back, ya’ll! (I never actually say ya’ll but sometimes I just have to write it. It really looks welcoming, doesn’t it?) Come on in, the living room tour is about to begin.

Frantically Simple's Home and Garden Show (and a WFMW tip)

So, we’ve lived here for about three weeks now and are pretty well settled in but I feel like my sense of urgency has dried up. The few remaining boxes are starting to gather dust.
I have found that things get done much more quickly around my house when I’m expecting company.
The only problem is, I’m not expecting any company.
So… I’m inviting all of you into my home. (I hope I’ve planned enough refrehments!)
That’s right, pull up your monitors and come in. It’s the Frantically Simple Home and Garden Show.
I’ll be posting a different area of my home or yard everyday until you’ve seen it all.
Today we’ll be touring the Girl Wonder’s Bedroom. (And I’ll be sharing an easy WFMW tip for hanging a quilt.)

Simpler is better anyway

I have just spent the last half-hour writing a post to explain a little change taking place on my blog.
And. it. just. got. DELETED.
Sigh.
Which, upon reflection, is probably for the better. It was confusing and rambling.
At one point I even referenced the cartoon villain, Fartor.
So instead of all that, I’ll just tell you what’s up.

By popular demand: drive across America travel tips **Updated**

Drive across America - Day 9
Can you believe we drove a straight 3500 miles last month? All the way across America. 3500 miles with no incidents other than a dead battery and a defective cargo carrier.
And then in the last week I’ve been in two car accidents!
Well, one car accident and one car incident.
Yes, just this evening while pulling out of a parking spot at Wal-Mart (oh, how I hate that store!) I failed to notice the woman pulling out behind me. And she failed to notice me. We tapped bumpers. (I’m fine.)
Yes, I was driving the rental car given to me while my car is being repaired. So there’s that added layer of embarrassment and paperwork. Ugh.
As a result, I have decided to retreat back into the relative safety of that 3500 miles and post a bit more about it.
Why? Because you, oh surfers of the internet, have asked for it.

Works For Me: Brilliant Storage Idea!!!

Shannon, at Rocks In My Dryer hosts a weekly blog-carnival called Works for Me Wednesday. Basically, people blog things that work for them, on Wednesdays, and post the links on her blog.
Here’s mine:
(And in the interest of truthfulness, maybe I over-hyped it in the title, but still…)

Dear Newt…

Last night I lost my cool with you. I admit it. I should have read the signs that you needed a quiet afternoon at home. Not a boring hour and a half at the car dealership where Daddy was buying his new truck. (I will still have a rental until my car is fixed.)
After the paperwork was signed we decided to make a trip quick to Target.
There is no such thing as a quick trip to Target.
And then a quick trip to Borders.
There is no such thing as a quick trip to Borders.
While we were out, we decided to have dinner at the Olive Garden. I know it’s one of your favorites…
There we sat, clustered into a booth that seemed too small, as our plans for a nice dinner fell apart.

One Reason to Like Rainy Days

It's worth it

Those of you who know me are probably aware that I was not exactly thrilled with the idea of moving back to Oregon. For one, I have become accustomed to seeing blue – real, actual, cloudless, blue skies in the winter.
I loved Maryland. Even in August when the humidity levels got so high that I felt as though I was wearing the weather, to borrow a phrase from Mr. Frantic. (He borrowed it from someone else.)
I loved driving to Lucketts, Virginia to look at antique shops or to Intercourse, Pennsylvania to see Amish farms (and giggle at the city’s name). I also loved the fact that I could visit another state without driving all day, unlike here. Well except for Washington state, but it’s so much like Oregon that it hardly counts.
I loved steamed blue crab with Old Bay and camping out for tickets to the White House Easter Egg Roll. Taking the train to Manhattan and staying the weekend (rarely happened, but still – we could do it.) Laughing at the way natives pronounced “Balamore Meriland”.
The fact that I was 3000 miles away from my family really did not bother me. Much.
That may sound terrible, but it’s true. We had flat rate long-distance. My parents were only a phone call away.

Not quite out of the woods

I honestly had planned to post today. I have freshly uploaded pictures of a neat, almost unpacked home just sitting on my hard drive. We even have pictures hung on the walls.
I planned to write about how much I love our new little house and neighborhood. About how much I enjoy walking Newt to school everyday and how fun it was to go for a run yesterday.
Moving can be so incredibly stressful.
Particularly moving so far.
In the middle of the school year.
With a obsessive-compulsive child.
I had planned to blog about how even though we are not totally settled, I felt like we were almost through the woods.
But…
Instead, I’m sitting here on the couch with a heating pad for my incredibly sore muscles.
accident aftermath
No, not from lifting heavy boxes.
Not from rearranging the furniture.
And not from the first run I’ve had in weeks.
No, I am feeling tender and sore from the car accident Mr. Frantic and I were involved in today.
